534i: Idiophones

Description

Idiophones are made of solid, non-stretchable, resonant material. It is this sonorous material itself which vibrates.

Idiophones are classified according to the ways they are made to produce sound.

To classify a specific idiophone, include information about other elements such as the following:

  • The material from which it is made (wood, stone, metal, plants)
  • Whether pitch or tuning is important
  • Number of idiophones in a single instrument
  • Whether it has one or more resonators
