The Energetic approach to language learning

Introduction

Energetic learners will probably not enjoy following a highly structured program, unless it leaves them some room to flex.

If you are an Energetic learner, you may need help with planning your program. Just be sure the helper keeps your learning style preference in mind and includes lots of unstructured time and variety in your program.

Guidelines

Here are some general guidelines to follow when you use the Energetic approach to language learning:

  • Base structured work on events you participate in such as

    • a shared meal, or
    • working with somebody in the field.
  • Build basic vocabulary using action-based approaches and games.
  • Use your social skills to make relationships.
  • Spend lots of time doing things with people.
  • Use your creative ability to make up games.
  • Find creative ways to practice using the language.
  • Use a lot of communicative activities.
